Changing Diapers

Changing diapers would require a lot of training and practice and not to mention patience too! Your baby will try to wiggle his way out from wearing a diaper.

Ensuring that your baby’s diaper is securely fastened is crucial in order to avoid any unwanted incidences such as leakage or spillage or even skin irritation.

The objective is to keep your baby as dry and as comfortable as possible. Let’s take a look at some tips on baby’s diapering:

No. Tape Type Pants Type
1. Ensure that baby is on a flat and safe place, away from falling off. If baby is able to stand, let him hold on to a support like a table or your shoulder.
2. Never leave baby unattended. Stretch baby’s waistband and gently tear both sides of the seams.
3. Clean hands to avoid contamination. Clean baby’s bottom from any urine or stool residue.
4. Unfasten tapes on disposable diaper. Wipe baby dry.
5. Check and wipe away residue of urine and stool. Apply ointment and check for chafing or redness or even rashes.
6. Clean the diaper area thoroughly, between creases and wipe from front to back (for baby girl) to avoid infection. If there are marks from chafing, it may be time to change sizes.
7. You might want to cover baby boy’s penis with cloth or diaper to avoid being sprayed with urine. Take a new pants diaper, stretch the waistband and pull it up baby’s leg (one leg at a time) until it reaches the navel area.
8. Apply ointment and check for chafing or redness or even rashes. Ensure that pant is snugly and comfortably fitted.
9. Lift the baby up by the ankles and slip on a new diaper from baby’s behind. Make sure that all the ruffles are outside to avoid skin irritation and perhaps leakage.
10. Fasten the adjustable tape and ensure that the diaper is snug and comfortable (not tight!) and all the edges aren’t tucked under. Ensure that baby’s back area is fully covered and not rumpled at the groin area.
