Congratulations! Now that you know you are pregnant, it is time to break the wonderful news to those closest to you. Apart from sharing the joyful news with your loved ones, announcing your pregnancy will help other people to understand your condition and help you in your daily chores. Here are some tips on how you should break the news in order of importance:
| No. |
Person |
Method |
| 1. |
Husband (Father-to-be)
- The first one to know should be your husband as he will be the one sharing the burden to raise and care for the baby later on.
|
Face-to-face
- More intimate and meaningful manner, as pregnancy is a news that is life changing.
Phone call, message or email
- If your husband is away or you can wait for him to return from his trip.
|
| 2. |
Family Members |
Face-to-face
- We suggest that you do the announcement face-to-face with your family members and to do it together with your husband. Pregnancy is a joyous event to celebrate.
|
| 3. |
Friends & Colleagues |
Face-to-face, calls or messages
- Friends and/or colleagues will be elated to hear of your pregnancy. They don’t mind receiving the news in any manner and will make life easy for you in running your daily activities (especially for working mothers-to-be).
|
| 4. |
Employer |
Your employer should be notified according to the company’s policy and also to enable your employer to plan and reorganise your duties (reduce travelling, physically strenuous work, etc) that will help you plan out your work and care for your pregnancy and delivery better. |
|
Note:
You might want to inform your husband immediately of your pregnancy.
For family members, friends and employer, you might want to wait until your pregnancy is already in the 12th week where the risk of miscarriage is reduced and abnormalities can be detected.
